My favorite thing to bake is "Old School" chocolate cake. I grew up in a chocolate-obsessed family, going to New York City diners, eating big slices of moist chocolate cake filled with fudgy chocolate ganache (and covered in mini chocolate chips). I have so much fun adapting this cake for different occasions and it's always a major crowd pleaser.
How long have you been baking?I've been a serious home baker for the past seven years, though baking was always a dream of mine, even before I had the resources to pursue it. When I was applying to colleges in 2007, I almost chose culinary school to become a pastry chef, but instead accepted a scholarship where I could study communications, and discovered my second love—video editing—which is now my profession.
What would you do with the $20,000?My husband and I just got married, so I’d put part of the money toward our dream of buying a home (with a beautiful kitchen for baking—of course!). I’d invest some in better baking supplies and tools, and the rest would go to savings and toward my goal of becoming completely debt-free by 2026.
