i love baking bread, any fruit forward dessert, and cookies. i adore doing special birthday bakes for my friends — sometimes they have specific requests but it thrills me to be trusted enough to dream up a bake that reflects their taste. some examples of past birthday bakes include miso shoyu citrus sables, dark chocolate cherry focaccia, and brown sugar biscoff pop tarts. my favorite thing to bake is anything that challenges me.
How long have you been baking?as a kid, my gramma kept her flour, sugar, etc in these very appealing glass canisters on top of her fridge and had an antique hand crank mixer i was obsessed with. she’d let me make and bake “concoctions” — sometimes they’d come out good and sometimes not ! but i believe this was formative for helping me develop my passion and creativity in the kitchen. i have been baking in earnest for two decades.
What would you do with the $20,000?i would donate a portion of the winnings to community solidarity, which is america’s largest vegetarian hunger relief program - good healthful food should be a right, not a privilege. i would also use the $20,000 to pursue a plant-based culinary education at le cordon bleu so that i could follow my passions (id love to be a private chef or offer boutique catering services !) and do some food-centric traveling.
