My signature bake is cookies--specifically hand decorated sugar cookies. I first started baking with a semi-homemade recipe for Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies and my family & friends fell in-love. They are a hit at every family gathering and friend get together. Shortly after, I started making decorated sugar cookies and it quickly became my passion. I love making them for friends, old and new, when a new baby arrives, an engagement occurs, for wedding showers and more.How long have you been baking?
To the surprise of many, I did not bake very much as a child. We would make pies for Thanksgiving, but otherwise, it was always the boxed stuff or treats from a local bakery. I really got into baking in college. It was a fun, thoughtful and inexpensive way to give gifts to friends. I started my signature bake (hand-decorated cookies) about six years ago after getting an order of beautiful cookies from a local baker. I thought "I can do that!" And the rest is history!What is your best baking secret?
As much as I love the process of baking from scratch, my biggest tip (especially for people who are intimidated by baking) is to not shy away from box mixes! In a pinch, they take the guesswork out and they cut down on dishes. All they really are are your dry ingredients ready to go. Of course, there are tons of ways to bring a box cake, brownie or cookie mix to life that I am happy to share. I would also say patience! You will get better with practice.
